Malaysia's Strategic Trade (Amendment) Act 2017 went into effect on September 8, 2017. The primary changes introduced under the amending Act include: an amended ‘brokering’ definition and a carve-out for 'ancillary services'; an expanded definition of ‘authorised officers’; the requirement of 'End-Use' Statements became optional rather than mandatory; replacement of minimum fines to maximum fines; and introduced the authority to compound offences under the STA Act.
